Watching an event online as a guest

How to join a broadcast you have been invited to, what you can do while you are there, and what to try if it will not play.

What it is

A page where you watch an event as it happens, see the order of service, and send messages and reactions the hosts can see.

When to use it

When you have been invited to an event you cannot attend in person and the hosts are broadcasting it.

Who can use it

Anyone the host has invited to watch. You do not need a Regaw account, and there is nothing to install.

Where to find it

  • The link in your invitation email or on your invitation card

Step by step

  1. Open the link the hosts sent you. It works on a phone, a tablet, a laptop or a smart TV.

    Use your own personal link if you have one — it greets you by name and lets you send messages as yourself.

  2. If you arrive early you will see a countdown and the running order. Leave the page open.

    It starts playing by itself. You do not need to refresh.

  3. Turn the sound on. The video starts muted so it cannot surprise you.

  4. Use the reactions and the message box to let the hosts know you are there.

What you should end up with

You see and hear the event as it happens, with the current item of the programme highlighted, and anything you send appears for the hosts and the other guests watching.

If something goes wrong

It says the broadcast is for invited guests
Use the personal link from your invitation rather than one somebody forwarded you. If you cannot find it, ask the hosts to send it again.
It asks for an access code
The hosts shared a code with their guests — check your invitation. It is not case-sensitive.
The video keeps pausing to load
Open the quality menu and choose a lower setting, or move closer to your router. On a phone, wifi is usually steadier than mobile data.
It says "Reconnecting"
The hosts’ camera has briefly lost its connection. Stay on the page — it comes back on its own, usually within seconds.
There is no sound
Press the speaker icon on the player. Broadcasts always start muted.
The room is full
The hosts have a limit on how many people can watch at once. Try again in a few minutes — places free up as people leave.

Worth knowing

  • You can make it full screen, or pop it out into a small floating window while you do something else.
  • On an iPhone or a Mac you can send it to an Apple TV; on Chrome you can cast it to a TV.
  • If you miss the start, you can often rewind to the beginning without leaving the live broadcast.
