What it is

Password management: changing it from Settings, or resetting it by email if you cannot get in.

When to use it

When you cannot sign in, or when you want a stronger password.

Who can use it

You, for your own account.

Where to find it

Step by step

  1. If you are signed in: open Settings and use the Security section.

  2. If you cannot get in: open Forgot password and enter your email address.

  3. Open the email and follow the link.

Reset links expire. If yours has, request a new one rather than trying the old link again.

  4. Set a new password of at least 8 characters.

  5. Sign in with it.

What you should end up with

You can sign in with the new password.

Common mistakes

  • Requesting several resets in a row and then using the oldest link. Use the most recent email.
  • Requesting a password reset for an account that signs in with Google. There is no password to reset — use the Google option.

If something goes wrong

The reset email never arrived.
Check spam. Confirm you used the address you registered with — a reset for an unknown address deliberately produces the same message.
The reset link says it is invalid.
It has expired or has already been used. Request a fresh one.
I still cannot sign in.
